This basement project was a designer's dream, provided he or she likes a good challenge. The unfinished basement had headers and posts in prominent spots, and the trunklines ran through a large swath of the ceiling. My clients had a vision of a speakeasy basement space that could transport you with a quick trip down the swanky stairs, so we set the mood from that threshold throughout.
Lighting was a massive focus in this project, with dimmable Lutron controls at every switch. Additionally, we integrated LED color-changing and tunable, temperature-adjustable lighting in the lounge area to allow for perfect mood lighting for every occasion. Application of thin brick, unique wallcoverings, creative wine and liquor storage, large format porcelain tile, color drenching, and a hidden bookshelf door added function, texture, and visual interest at every turn.
The lounge is connected with an earthy bathroom at the end of a long, wide hallway. The bedroom is tucked away discreetly next door, with an artist studio in the room with the most substantial natural light. It truly feel like you've time-traveled to another time and space in this basement. It's an absolute delight!
